As you move between the tabs within the application window, the application will automatically be saved, and you will see a “submission saved” notice at the top of the page. If you click on other links within the application window, your application may not be saved.
There is an automatic logout after 30 minutes on one page. The timer at the top right will turn red when there are only 5 minutes remaining.

The New Candidate Application is for applicants who have never been accepted for a DEVELOP opportunity before. The Previous Candidate Application is for applicants who have previously participated in the DEVELOP Program.
Your applicant classification should reflect your status as of the start of the term you are applying for. If you will be currently enrolled in school, select “Currently Enrolled Student.” If you have graduated within the past two years, select “Recent Graduate.” If you graduated more than two years ago and have been working for at least two years in a professional environment, select “Early/Transitioning Career Professional.”
Applicants will list the names and email addresses of at least two recommenders. Once the applicant submits their application, the recommenders will be emailed to request the letter and provide instructions for writing and submitting the letter. Then, recommenders will submit their letters directly to the DEVELOP National Program Office via email.
If you applied for the most recent term and were not accepted, you may elect to use the letters of recommendation that were previously submitted on your behalf. To do so, please list the your recommender’s name and use this email address: NASA-DL-DEVELOP@mail.nasa.gov. DEVELOP will receive the email request and then upload the letter that was previously submitted on your behalf.
An email with the letter of recommendation deadline and additional instructions for writing and submitting the letter will be sent to the recommenders’ email addresses provided in your application once you have submitted your application.
The letters of recommendation can be addressed generally “to whom it may concern.”
Letters of recommendation are due to be submitted by the recommender via email directly to the DEVELOP National Program Office two weeks after the application window closes. The actual date will be included in the email sent to the recommenders. A reminder email will be sent to anyone who has not submitted a requested letter one week prior to the deadline.
If one of your recommenders is unable to submit a letter on your behalf, you may contact the DEVELOP National Program Office - NASA-DL-DEVELOP@mail.nasa.gov - to edit your recommenders and their email addresses.
Once a recommender emails their letter of recommendation to the DEVELOP National Program Office, it will be manually uploaded to your application. The letters of recommendation are uploaded in batches as they are received. Your recommender will receive a confirmation email from the DEVELOP National Program Office once their letter has been uploaded to your application. Once uploaded, the letter will reflect “received” in the system. You may login at any time after you submit your application to check the status of your letters of recommendation.
On the “Final Step” tab, you must click the “Submit Application” button at the bottom. After successful submission, you will receive a confirmation email from the site stating your application has been submitted. If you try to submit and any items are missing, you will receive an error message with the required fields highlighted in red.
You can check the status of your application by returning to the DEVELOP online application site and viewing your read-only previously submitted application. Interviews are scheduled after all applications have been received and reviewed. All applicants will be notified of their selection status by email.
